DOH records 111 COVID-19 deaths in CagVal

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 19 (PIA) - - There were already 111 recorded deaths from COVID-19 in the Cagayan Valley region, according to the latest bulletin released by the Department of Health (DOH) region 2.

Of the number of death cases, Isabela recorded 55 deaths, the highest among the provinces, followed by Cagayan with 29, Nueva Vizcaya with 24, and Santiago City with three.

As to the number of cases, in over ten months since the first case of COVID-19 was detected in the country, there were already 6,328 cases in the whole Cagayan Valley region in which 5,377 have already recovered while there are 835 active cases.

Among the cities and municipalities, Tuguegarao City has recorded the highest number of active cases as of today with 216, followed by Ilagan City with 183, Cauayan City with 90 and Baggao, Cagayan with 67 cases.

Of these cases, DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay said 819 cases or 98.1 percent are due to local transmission, 14 cases or 1.7 percent were imported cases including locally stranded individuals, while only 2 cases or 0.2 percent are returning overseas Filipinos.

He also said the bed capacity of the referral hospitals in the whole region are already in alarming condition, specially the ICU beds that are now under "high risk" category, as the number of patients with severe and critical conditions are increasing.

With this, officials are already alarmed of the situation wherein cases of community transmission are relatively increasing.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba and Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano have already recommended to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force to place the city of Tuguegarao under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to stop the spread of the virus and to gradually lower the number of positive active cases here.
