Gonzaga remained No. 1 in the first Associated Press Top 25 men's basketball poll of the regular season after wins against Kansas and Auburn.

The Bulldogs (2-0), who were No. 1 in the preseason poll, received 57 of 63 first-place votes and a total of 1,569 points.

No. 2 Baylor (2-0) held its position and received the other six first-place ballots and 1,513 points following victories against Louisiana and Washington.

No. 3 Iowa (2-0) climbed two spots, with fellow Big Ten members Wisconsin (2-0) and Illinois (3-0) rounding out the top five.

No. 7 Kansas (1-1) fell one place after losing to Gonzaga, but the Jayhawks made history with their 222nd consecutive week in the Top 25. That broke UCLA's all-time record set from 1966-80.

Villanova (2-1) dropped nine spots to No. 12 after a loss to No. 16 Virginia Tech (3-0), one of two newcomers to the poll.

No. 19 Richmond (2-0) also joined the Top 25 after knocking off Kentucky (1-1), which fell 10 spots to No. 20.

No. 15 Virginia (1-1) took the biggest tumble, dropping 11 places after losing to San Francisco.

UCLA and Michigan, which were previously ranked 22nd and 25th, respectively, dropped out of the poll.
